Six proven ways to stretch your print budget further
Times are tough and with the end of the financial year drawing closer, its times like this you need to make your budgets go further. Take a look at these examples of how BPA has helped stretch their client's marketing dollars further and still delivered superior quality printed materials. 1. MATERIAL RATIONALISATION BPA was asked to produce a calendar with spiral binding which added $1 per unit to the cost. We redesigned the calendar as a saddle stitched book of 16 pages which reduced the cost from $39,000 to $31,000.
Savings = $8,000
2. PAPER STOCK RATIONALISATION BPA managed the production of a company's Annual Report, including design and typesetting. BPA designed the report using a light weight stock to lower their costs, not just for printing but for mailing. The lighter stock resulted in a saving of $45,000 in printing costs, as well as savings achieved in postage of the Reports.
Savings = $45,000 printing + reduced postage costs
3. BRAND MANAGEMENT Part of BPA's role is to maintain colour and quality consistency when dealing with different creative agencies across a stable of brands. In a recent campaign, the BPA Account Manager noticed that artwork received from one agency contained a different red colour to that usually used by the brand.
After discussion with the client BPA was able to adjust the percentage of colour in the film separations artwork to the correct levels. This represented cost savings to the client as they avoided additional design work, printer proofs and even a potential reprint of the job.
Savings = $ pre-press/printing costs
4. REDUCING WASTAGE BPA handles push marketing rollouts of brochures and point of sale materials for many of its clients. One particular client was experiencing wastage out in the sales channel with one of their brochures.
Not all their stores and agents would use a full pack of 20 brochures. BPA's solution was to change the packaging of these brochures into lots of 5 rather than lots of 20, so those stores who only use a few could order a minimum quantity, thus reducing the overall print quantity and reducing wastage.
Savings = $ reduced wastage
5. CHANGING EMBELLISHMENTS When taking on a new client BPA examined how their product catalogues were currently being produced. The covers included a matt celloglaze plus spot UV gloss on the outer cover. By replacing the matt celloglaze with a matt varnish and still using the Spot UV gloss, BPA delivered two significant advantages to the client:
- A cost saving by elimination of the celloglaze of $500.00 per catalogue type
- The catalogues are now fully recyclable by elimination of the celloglaze
Savings = $ printing costs + environmental benefits
6. PRODUCT OPTIMISATION BPA often recommends to their clients to provide all artwork for a campaign together so that BPA can utilise press time better. Printing all materials at the same time saves on the set-up and make ready costs, which represents a significant cost saving to the client's total campaign cost.
Savings = $ print set-up costs
